Latin lyrics & English translation
LATINENGLISH
Veni, umbra
Veni, umbra
Te voco
Te voco
Come, shadow
Come, shadow
I call you
I call you
Tibi omnia dedi
Tibi omnia dedi
Audi me
Responde mihi
I gave you everything
I gave you everything
Hear me
Answer me
Veni… umbra…
Responde…
Come… shadow…
Answer…
Veni.
Iubeo.
Veni.
Iubeo.
Mundus flexit
Et tu flectes
Come.
I command it.
Come.
I command it.
The world bent the knee
And you will bend
Et tu flectes
Et tu… flectes
Veni, umbra
Veni…
And you will bend
And you… will bend
Come, shadow
Come…
Veni, umbra
(veni… umbra…)
Come, shadow
(come… shadow…)
Amor meus means both “my love” the feeling and “my love” the man; the opera uses both.
